Shanghai Children's Medical Center (SCMC), jointly established by the Shanghai Municipal Government and Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere) in the 1990s, is a premier tertiary A specialized children's hospital officially opened on June 1, 1998. It was inscribed by former President Jiang Zemin and inaugurated by former U.S. First Lady Hillary Clinton. Affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, it was designated as a National Children's Medical Center in 2017. SCMC is renowned for its international background, having partnerships with over 30 top medical institutions across more than ten countries. It was the first children's specialty hospital in China to obtain JCI international accreditation (2010) and won the Shanghai Municipal Government Quality Gold Award in 2018. With 31 clinical departments, 1,500 planned beds (800 currently operational), it handles approximately 1.92 million outpatient visits annually. Its Pediatric Cardiovascular Center and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Center are among the largest and most advanced in the world, representing the highest level in their fields in China. 儿童血液肿瘤中心
Asia's largest center. Its acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) 5-year event-free survival rate approaches 80% (internationally advanced). Performs nearly 200 bone marrow transplants annually for leukemia and rare diseases (highest in China). Its SCMC-2005 ALL treatment protocol is nationally recommended for its effectiveness and cost-efficiency. The Zhangjiang campus focuses on building a "national highland" for pediatric blood tumor treatment.
