Brief Introduction
The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (FAHZU) was founded in 1947 as the first affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University. It is a large Grade 3 Class A comprehensive hospital integrating medical care, teaching, research, prevention, and management. The hospital serves as the National Center for Infectious Diseases Medicine, the leading unit of the comprehensive national regional medical center, and one of the first batch of pilot units for national medical center creation (mentoring category). It is also one of 14 pilot units for high-quality development of public hospitals nationwide. With six campuses (Qingchun, Yuhang/Headquarters Phase I, Zhijiang, Chengzhan, Daxuelu, and Qiantang), the hospital has over 5,000 authorized beds and nearly 10,000 staff members. In the 2022 national tertiary public hospital performance assessment, it ranked 2nd nationwide, consistently achieving A++ rating (top 1%). It ranked 10th in the Fudan version of China Hospital Rankings and 5th in Science and Technology Metrics. Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery/Organ Transplantation Center: National key discipline and national clinical key specialty, one of China's largest hepatobiliary and pancreatic centers (14 wards with over 600 beds). Led by Academician Zheng Shusen, with over 3,000 liver transplants performed, creating Asia's longest combined pancreas-kidney transplant survival record (18 years) and China's longest combined liver-kidney transplant survival record (17 years). 2. Infectious Diseases/Infectious Disease Department: National key discipline led by Academician Li Lanjuan.
